Marketplace development cost calculator
Describe who sells, who buys and how a deal goes from request to payout, and the marketplace development cost calculator splits the platform into modules — catalogue, orders, payments, cabinets, the admin — with hours, a timeline and a price in about 15 seconds.
Start narrow: one niche, one city or one type of deal. The team review usually cuts the first release down to what the first transactions need, and the contract fixes the price.

Price drivers
What moves the price of a marketplace
A marketplace is four products: the buyer side, the supply side, the rules between them and the operator’s admin. Each module has a cheaper and a more expensive version.
Catalogue and search
One category with simple filters, or many categories with geo search, availability and ranking.
Orders or bookings
One flow from request to completion, or several deal types with partial deliveries and rescheduling.
Payments
Card payment, money held and manual payouts — or split payments, automated payouts, refunds and chargebacks.
Seller onboarding
Manual approval in the admin, or identity checks, document verification and contracts.
Reviews and disputes
Ratings tied to completed orders, or a dispute flow with evidence, an append-only log and arbitration.
Cabinets
Buyer and seller on the web, or separate web and mobile cabinets for every side.
Orientation
Typical marketplace ranges in 2026
An orientation, not a quote: where you land depends on how many of the expensive versions of each module the first release really needs.
| Stage | What is inside | Typical range | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demand test | A landing page, a request form, manual matching by your team, payment by link | $3,000–$12,000 | 1–3 weeks |
| Marketplace MVP | One niche, a web app, profiles and listings, orders or bookings, card payments held until completion, reviews, an admin | $40,000–$90,000 | 2–4 months |
| Growth platform | Mobile apps, automated payouts, disputes, several categories or cities, imports and feeds, analytics | $100,000–$250,000+ | 5–9 months |
The calculator prices your modules one by one, so you can see which version of each the first release can live with. The article behind these ranges: Marketplace Development Cost: From MVP to Full Platform.
Modules
Modules the calculator prices
The parts a marketplace estimate is made of, each with its own hours.
Listings and catalogue
Profiles, listings, filters and search, with moderation of what sellers publish.
Bookings and orders
One lifecycle from request to completion, with statuses every side sees in real time.
Payments and payouts
Card payments, money held until the order is completed, platform commission and payouts to sellers.
Reviews and disputes
Ratings tied to completed orders, a dispute flow and a log the admin team can rely on.
A cabinet for every side
Buyers, sellers or providers and the admin team each get their own cabinet.
Imports and feeds
Supply pulled in from partners or existing catalogues, so the marketplace isn’t empty on day one.
Three formats
Choose how we build it
The format decides who writes the code and how much engineering review goes into it — and with that, the price and the pace.
- AI / build
AI Build
Fastest path · prototypes & internal tools
AI generates the structure and most of the implementation. Engineers review integrations and the release. The lowest cost, for prototypes, internal tools and MVPs that test an idea.
- AI / engOur pick here
AI + DEV
Recommended for most MVPs
AI builds the scaffolding and the obvious parts. Engineers own the architecture, critical logic, integrations and full QA. Balanced pace and review, for customer-facing MVPs and B2B products.
- full / eng
DEV
Maximum quality & control
Senior developers own architecture and implementation end to end. AI is an internal tool for speed, never the final author. For production systems and regulated domains.
A marketplace moves other people’s money, so we recommend AI + DEV for the first release and DEV once volume grows: payments, payouts and disputes need engineers who own every edge case. AI Build fits a clickable prototype for testing demand with a handful of users.
How it works
From a brief to an accepted product
The same five steps for every project, whatever we build. You always know what is agreed, what is paid and what is done.
Estimate
Describe the product in your own words, add a link or a file. In about 15 seconds you see the modules, the hours, the timeline and a price.
Team review
Our team reads the brief and the estimate, asks about anything unclear in your cabinet or on a call, and confirms the scope and the price. Nothing starts before that.
Contract
You sign a contract online: a fixed price, the scope split into modules, and a payment schedule — in full or by stages.
Milestones
We build module by module. QA checks each one before it reaches you, and the cabinet shows the work as it moves.
Acceptance
You have 7 days to review each module: accept it or send it back with a list of fixes. Your money stays in the project reserve until you accept.
FAQ
Questions we get asked
How much does it cost to build a marketplace?
As an orientation: a demand test $3,000–$12,000, a marketplace MVP $40,000–$90,000, and a growth platform with mobile apps and automated payouts $100,000–$250,000+. The calculator prices your own modules.
Why does a marketplace cost more than an online store?
A store has one seller; a marketplace has many on both sides, and each side needs its own product: search and ordering for buyers, onboarding and payouts for sellers, the rules between them — commission, refunds, disputes — and an admin for the team that runs it.
How do payments between buyers and sellers work?
The buyer pays the platform by card, the money is held until the order is completed or confirmed, and then it is paid out to the seller minus your commission. Refunds and disputes have their own flow and log. We choose the payment provider with you, by your countries and business model.
Does the first release need a mobile app?
Not always. A responsive web app is often enough for the first transactions; a mobile app pays off when people come back often. The backend is shared, so the app can be added later.
How do I keep the first release affordable?
Go narrow: one niche, one city or one type of deal. Bring supply in first, run matching, moderation and payouts from the admin by hand, and tie reviews to real orders from day one. Automate once transactions repeat.
